Sokoto Boat Mishap: One dead, nine rescued, 80-yr-old woman missing

A 29-year-old man’s body has been recovered following a boat accident in Sokoto State, the latest in a series of tragic incidents in the region.

The accident occurred on Friday in the Shagari Local Government Area, with several passengers feared missing. According to Aminu Bodinga, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the incident took place on Thursday.

Bodinga confirmed that SEMA officials had been promptly deployed to the scene to assist in search and rescue efforts.

The Telegraph reported that rescue operations were conducted in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and local divers. Together, they successfully recovered the body of the 29-year-old victim from the river.

As of the latest updates, nine individuals have been rescued, though an 80-year-old woman remains missing as search efforts continue.

This marks the third boat accident in Sokoto State in the past two weeks, following separate incidents in Kojiyo village in Goronyo Local Government Area and Garin-Faji village in Sabon Birni.
