The distribution of election materials for the chairmanship and councillorship elections in Rivers State began early Saturday morning across all local government areas.
At a registration center in Elekahia, Port Harcourt City LGA, party agents and ad hoc staff were seen actively overseeing the movement of materials to various polling units by 9 a.m.
The exercise is being managed by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), which oversees local government elections across the state’s 23 LGAs, 319 wards, and 4,442 polling units.
Today’s elections come six months after the Supreme Court annulled the October 2024 local government elections in the state, citing violations of the Electoral Act.
