The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, identified as Akpan Godwin, for unlawful possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, near Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the arrest was made by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Akwuzu, following credible intelligence.
“Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, acting on credible information, on Friday, arrested one Akpan Godwin, male, 65 years, in possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, Onitsha,” the statement read.
According to Ikenga, the suspect confessed during interrogation to his involvement in the illegal sale of ammunition and named other individuals linked to the illicit trade.
He added that a manhunt has been launched to track down and arrest the suspect’s accomplices.
“The operatives have intensified investigations and are working to apprehend all individuals connected to the operation. Further developments will be communicated,” Ikenga said.
