The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday suspended four lawmakers for allegedly plotting to impeach the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh.
Sources within the Assembly told our correspondent that the lawmakers were accused of holding a secret meeting at the Government House to strategize on removing the Speaker from office.
Those suspended are Alfred Aondoaver (Makurdi North), Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya II), Cyril Ikong (Oju II), and Abu Umoru James (Apa).
The motion for their suspension was moved by the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, during plenary. He accused the lawmakers of attempting to destabilize the House, despite a recently passed vote of confidence in both the Speaker and the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia.
“On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the House unanimously passed a vote of confidence in its leadership and in the Governor,” Tiseer said. “It is disturbing that just days after this resolution, Hon. Alfred Aondoaver and three others allegedly began mobilizing support to disrupt proceedings and create chaos.”
The motion was adopted during a session presided over by Speaker Dajoh, resulting in the suspension of the four members for six months.
In the same sitting, the Assembly also confirmed four out of eight commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Alia.
