Tinubu reduces dialysis cost from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 – Presidency

President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has approved a significant reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals nationwide, from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000 per session.

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, Daniel Bwala, announced the development on Monday via his official X handle.

“With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of citizens battling kidney-related diseases,” Bwala stated.

He noted that the subsidy is already being implemented in key federal hospitals across all six geopolitical zones, including:

  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos
  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja
  • University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
  • University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri
  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta
  • Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos
  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare
  • University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin
  • University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar

According to Bwala, more federal medical centres and teaching hospitals will be included in the subsidy program before the end of the year to expand access across the country.

He also highlighted another major healthcare initiative previously approved by President Tinubu—free caesarean sections (C-sections) for pregnant women in federal hospitals—a move aimed at improving maternal health and reducing preventable maternal deaths.

“These measures are clear examples of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action—ensuring no Nigerian is denied access to life-saving healthcare due to cost,” Bwala added.
