The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a clean sweep in all three bye-elections conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across Kaduna State.
In the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency race, APC candidate Felix Bagudu emerged victorious with a total of 34,580 votes, defeating his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 11,491 votes.
A breakdown of the results shows a historic win for the APC in Kajuru, where it secured 10,487 votes against the PDP’s 6,789. In Chikun, the APC recorded an even wider margin, polling 24,093 votes compared to the PDP’s 4,702.
This marks the first time the APC has won both Chikun and Kajuru local government areas, traditionally PDP strongholds since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
The APC also clinched victories in the two Kaduna State House of Assembly bye-elections for the Zaria Kewaye and Basawa constituencies.
In the Zaria Kewaye constituency, the returning officer, Professor Balarabe Abdullahi, declared APC’s Isa Haruna Ihamo the winner with 26,613 votes. He was followed by Nuhu Sada Abdullahi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 5,721 votes, while PDP’s Mamuda Abdullahi Wappa came third with 5,331 votes.
Similarly, in the Basawa State Constituency, Professor Nasiru Rabiu, the returning officer, announced that the APC candidate won with 10,926 votes, defeating the PDP candidate, who secured 5,499 votes.
These resounding victories have further cemented the APC’s political dominance in Kaduna, particularly in the Zaria zone, where the bye-elections were widely viewed as a crucial test of strength between the ruling party and the opposition.
