Nigeria’s D’Tigers delivered a commanding performance at the 2025 Men’s Afrobasket, dismantling Tunisia 87–66 in a one-sided encounter on Friday at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda, Angola.
The Nigerians came out firing, racing to a 10–0 lead in the opening minutes, with Houston Rockets’ guard Josh Okogie setting the tempo. His energetic playmaking and scoring prowess laid the foundation for Nigeria’s early dominance.
By the end of the first quarter, D’Tigers led 29–16, and they continued to build on that momentum, extending the gap to 48–33 by halftime. The third quarter saw them widen the margin further to 68–47, before sealing the win with a final score of 87–66.
Josh Okogie was the standout performer of the night, scoring 33 points—the highest individual tally for a Nigerian player in an Afrobasket match since 2021. His sharpshooting and relentless pace proved too much for the Eagles of Carthage, as Tunisia had no answers to Nigeria’s onslaught.
Nigeria fielded a formidable squad, including Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, Talib Zanna, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, and Okogie, as they aimed to re-establish themselves as a dominant force on the continent.
The emphatic win follows their 77–59 victory over Madagascar earlier in the week and puts Nigeria in pole position at the top of Group B.
D’Tigers will face Cameroon on Sunday in their final group-stage game—a clash that will determine seeding for the knockout phase.
While Nigeria’s only Afrobasket title came in 2015, they have finished as runners-up three times. With momentum on their side, the team will be hoping to emulate the success of their female counterparts, D’Tigress, who recently secured a record fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title.
