2027: Obidient movement launches PVC awareness campaign

Peter Obi
Supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2003 presidential candidate, have launched a nationwide campaign to encourage Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, operating under the banner of the Obidient Movement, unveiled the initiative titled “A New Nigeria is Possible: Get Your PVC and GO MERD” on Thursday.

In a statement from its communication directorate, the movement pledged to ensure that every eligible Nigerian secures a PVC to actively participate in the upcoming elections.

The campaign’s acronym, GO MERD, stands for Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult, reflecting its mission to mobilize millions of voters into organized blocs, safeguard electoral integrity, and boost voter turnout.

The statement emphasized that in every polling unit across Nigeria, every Obidient will lead or join a voting bloc of at least 100 people. They aim for 100% PVC ownership within these blocs. Volunteers will go door-to-door, assist with voter registration, and recruit 1,500 value-driven leaders to run for office under the Obidient platform.

Looking ahead to 2027, the group promised mass voter turnout, protection of the voting process by one million trained vote defenders, and the use of technology and real-time reporting to deter election rigging.

The Obidient Movement envisions a New Nigeria where food is affordable, communities are secure, healthcare is accessible, education prepares the youth, rural areas are connected to markets, women enjoy equal opportunities, businesses thrive without harassment, and the diaspora returns with pride.

The statement called on all Nigerians who believe in a better future to join the campaign. It urged people to get their PVC or help at least ten others get theirs, create or join a voting bloc at Obidients.com, mobilize friends, neighbors, and family to register and vote, volunteer as vote defenders in their polling units, attend rallies, town halls, and community events to spread the message, and share the campaign widely using hashtags #ANewNigeriaIsPossible, #SaveNigeria, #GetYourPVC, #GOMERD, and #1MillionObidients.

The group concluded by saying, “The path from frustration to transformation is clear. Together, we can save Nigeria, make election rigging difficult, and prove that a new Nigeria is possible.”
