Legacy FM, a private radio station in Ebonyi State, has lifted the suspension of its acting General Manager, Odoh Godfrey Chikwere.
According to a statement from the station’s management, Chikwere has been directed to resume his duties effective Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Chikwere was suspended on Saturday, August 9, following allegations that he publicly criticized Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru. Reports indicated that the criticisms were made both on-air and through posts on his personal social media accounts, particularly on Friday, August 8.
The station’s management cited “unruly behaviour” and a breach of the station’s code of conduct as the basis for his suspension. In an earlier statement, Legacy FM announced: “The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, with immediate effect, till further notice.
This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding Legacy FM.
He is directed to hand over all company property in his possession to the next senior officer.”
In a Facebook post made the day before his suspension, Chikwere criticized the Nwifuru administration, citing poor communication, underperformance by appointees, and a lack of clear policy direction. He urged the governor to “step on toes to achieve results,” warning that the current situation was eroding the administration’s support base.
In response, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, dismissed the criticisms as baseless. He accused Chikwere of ingratitude, pointing to the state government’s support for Legacy FM, which included the donation of a new SUV, installation of a transformer, and the construction of a road leading to the station.
Chikwere’s reinstatement signals a potential de-escalation of tensions between the radio station and the state government.
