Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has called for the expulsion of several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; and former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, accusing them of working against the party during the 2023 general elections.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Lamido urged the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to take decisive disciplinary action against members who openly undermined the party to benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“All those erring members—the Wikes, Ortoms, Ikpeazus, and others—who campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections and have declared their intent to support the APC in 2027 should be expelled from the party,” he asserted.
Lamido expressed frustration with what he described as a persistent culture of impunity within the PDP and stressed the urgent need for the party leadership to enforce its rules.
“Since the 2022 primaries leading up to the 2023 elections, some individuals, driven by personal ambitions and grievances over the party’s convention outcomes, have turned against the party. This ongoing disloyalty has seriously harmed the PDP,” he lamented.
He further noted that the party had tolerated such behaviour for over 18 months, in clear violation of its constitution.
“The PDP constitution mandates sanctions against those who breach the party’s code. It is encouraging that the party executives are now beginning to uphold their responsibilities,” Lamido said.
Highlighting his own protest, the former governor revealed he would boycott meetings of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) until action is taken against the offending members.
On the same day, the PDP’s National Working Committee issued a stern warning to party members who express support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, urging them to retract their positions or face tougher sanctions.
The NWC described such acts as anti-party and inconsistent with the party’s constitution.
