A former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ude Chukwu, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chukwu, who served as deputy to former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu from May 2015 to May 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter dated August 5, which was obtained by our correspondent.

In the letter, addressed to the Chairman of Ndi Elu Ward, Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area, Chukwu cited “personal reasons” for his decision.

“I write to inform you of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” the letter read in part.

“You may wish to note that I am resigning due to personal reasons. While it was a difficult decision to make, it is the best course of action for me at this time.”

Chukwu also expressed gratitude to the PDP for its support over the years and wished the party success in its future endeavours.

His resignation comes shortly after a visit to the current governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti. During the visit, Chukwu reportedly praised Otti’s performance and was quoted as saying the governor had earned a second term in office.

Following the visit, Chukwu was reportedly removed from all PDP stakeholders’ platforms in Abia State.
