The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced on Thursday that access to the result-checking portal for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been temporarily suspended due to technical issues.

In a statement signed by its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council explained that the glitches were discovered during an internal review of the recently released WASSCE results.

WAEC revealed that the issues stemmed from the implementation of a new security measure—paper serialisation—introduced to curb examination malpractice. The innovation, already adopted by another national examination body, was applied to four core subjects: Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

“Paper serialisation aligns with global best practices in assessment,” the statement noted. “However, our post-release quality checks identified technical bugs affecting some results.”

As a result, WAEC has temporarily restricted access to the results on its online portal to ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the assessment process.

The Council assured candidates and the public that it is working “with transparency and urgency” to resolve the issue within the next 24 hours.

WAEC apologised for the inconvenience and advised all candidates who had previously accessed their results to recheck them after 24 hours.
