Abducted Lecturer Joshua Saleh and troops.
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have successfully rescued Engineer Joshua Saleh, a lecturer at Taraba State University, who was kidnapped earlier in the week.

Saleh was abducted on July 31, 2025, by suspected criminals along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, the rescue operation was based on “credible and actionable intelligence.”

“Acting on the intelligence, troops, working in conjunction with DSS operatives, launched a precise search-and-rescue mission across multiple key locations, including Kente, Tsondi 1 and 2, Yaku, and the Warawa general area,” the statement read.

During the operation, the rescue team engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gunfight. Faced with overwhelming firepower, the assailants fled the scene, abandoning the victim. Engineer Saleh was rescued unharmed.

Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift response, professionalism, and effective collaboration with other security agencies.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace in Taraba State, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing reliable information to support ongoing security efforts.
