The Zamfara State Government has resumed the payment of state allowances to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, months after suspending the scheme.

Governor Dauda Lawal made the announcement on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B, Stream 1 corps members in Gusau. The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima, also disclosed that the state has commenced special allowance payments to corps members serving in the medical field.

Lawal described the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of corps members in the state.

He urged the new corps members to reciprocate the support by serving with dedication and integrity.

“As corps members, I urge you to make meaningful impacts in your host communities. The safety and welfare of every corps member serving in Zamfara is a top priority for my administration,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a secure and enabling environment for corps members, NYSC staff, and management to perform their duties effectively.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan, commended the Zamfara State Government for reinstating the allowances. He noted that the move would boost morale and enhance the overall effectiveness of the NYSC scheme in the state.

Lawan added that the three-week orientation exercise would feature sessions on the state’s culture and traditions, physical fitness, leadership training, and skills acquisition programmes.

“I encourage all corps members to take the orientation seriously. It is vital for your personal development and the success of your service year,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Lawal for his continued support to the NYSC in Zamfara.

A total of 554 corps members were sworn in at the ceremony by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, who was represented by A’ishatu Jibrin, Deputy Chief Registrar of the State High Court.
