INEC begins nationwide voter registration August 18

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the 2025 nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of upcoming elections.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday, INEC said online pre-registration will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, via its portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org.

Physical registration will start a week later, on Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and designated registration centres across the country.

The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

INEC urged all eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to take advantage of the opportunity.

“This exercise is open to Nigerians who have reached voting age or missed previous registration rounds. We encourage citizens to start the process online or visit our offices once physical registration begins,” the statement read.

The Commission also reminded voters that the CVR is not limited to new registrations. It includes requests for transfer of registration, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, and corrections of personal information such as names and dates of birth.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to a credible electoral process, emphasizing that the goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian can exercise their civic right. “We are working to make voter registration accessible, transparent, and inclusive,” the statement added.
