FG to repatriate Nigerians stranded in Central African Republic

Minster of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar
The Federal Government is set to evacuate and repatriate a group of Nigerian workers stranded in the Bambari region of the Central African Republic.

This follows the circulation of a viral video showing distressed Nigerians abandoned by their employers approximately 850km from the capital, Bangui.

In a statement released Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that officials from the Nigerian Mission in Bangui have established contact with the affected individuals and are working closely with local authorities to ensure their safety and return.

“The Ministry is deeply concerned about the welfare of the stranded Nigerians,” said spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa. “Our Mission has recovered their passports and dispatched a vehicle to evacuate them to Bangui, where they are expected to arrive with a military escort on Saturday, July 26, 2025.”

He added that discussions are ongoing with the employers regarding temporary accommodation and welfare support for the workers pending their repatriation to Nigeria.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigerians abroad and urged citizens seeking employment overseas to conduct thorough background checks on potential employers and ensure proper documentation.

“Nigerians are also advised to register with the nearest Nigerian embassy or mission when working abroad to avoid complications in times of need,” the ministry added.
