The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured their place in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, following a dramatic 2–1 victory over South Africa, sealed by a late goal from defender Mitchel Alozie.

With the tense semifinal seemingly destined for extra time, Alozie unleashed a hopeful long ball into the Banyana Banyana box in the 89th minute. The ball floated past everyone—including South Africa’s goalkeeper—and nestled into the back of the net, stunning the defending champions and sending the Nigerian bench into wild celebration.

The goal capped off a hard-fought and tightly contested encounter between two African powerhouses, living up to the pre-match billing as a clash of the titans. Nigeria, the nine-time champions, looked the brighter side in the early stages, dominating possession and creating the better chances.

They came close to opening the scoring in the first half, but were denied by a brilliant goal-line clearance and a series of key saves from South Africa’s resilient defence.

South Africa responded with intensity of their own, keeping the Super Falcons under pressure during key spells of the second half. The match remained on a knife edge until Alozie’s late intervention changed the script.

Nigeria will now advance to the WAFCON final, aiming to lift a record-extending 10th continental title.
