President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman and renowned business magnate, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who recently passed away in London.
The visit marked President Tinubu’s first official trip to Kano State since assuming office.
He was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru, and other senior government officials.
The presidential jet touched down at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at exactly 4:00 p.m., where the President was received by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, and other dignitaries.
A brief but solemn welcome ceremony featuring the national anthem and military honours was held at the airport before the president’s convoy proceeded to the Dantata family residence in the heart of Kano city.
Speaking at the residence, President Tinubu paid tribute to the late Aminu Dantata, describing him as a man of “rare integrity, humility, and entrepreneurial vision.”
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was not only a successful businessman but also a patriot who committed his life to uplifting others,” Tinubu said. “His contributions to Nigeria’s economic and social development will endure for generations.”
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf praised the president’s visit, calling it a demonstration of empathy and unity.
“This visit reflects Mr. President’s respect for the people of Kano and appreciation for the life and legacy of our great son,” Yusuf said. “Alhaji Aminu Dantata was a pillar in our community, and his legacy will continue to inspire.”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Tajudeen Dantata expressed gratitude for the visit.
“We are honoured by this show of solidarity,” he said. “The presence of the President and his delegation brings comfort to our family at this difficult time.”
Alhaji Aminu Dantata was widely revered as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished industrialists and philanthropists, leaving behind a legacy of decades-long service to business, civic development, and humanitarian causes.
