Police arrest notorious bandit kingpin after 11-year manhunt

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit kingpin, 34-year-old Mati Bagio, after over a decade on the run.

Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said Bagio, a resident of Unguwan Galadima in Shika District, Giwa LGA, had led a gang responsible for years of violent attacks across Kaduna and Katsina States, particularly in Giwa, Hunkuyi, Faskari, Dandume, and Funtua LGAs.

Acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by CSP Sani Zuntu, arrested Bagio at his residence on July 18. A cache of weapons and stolen property was recovered, including an AK-47 rifle, a fabricated AK-47, a pump-action gun, two English pistols, ammunition and magazines, a stolen Toyota Prado SUV, and two motorcycles.

The suspect, long on the police wanted list, is now in custody as investigations continue.
