President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), set to take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30.
According to a statement shared with The Telegraph, the event will be held under the theme “Unstoppable Africa” and is being organised in collaboration with the African Union Commission.
The endorsement follows a formal request from the African Union Commission seeking Nigeria’s support and partnership for the prestigious awards, which celebrate musical excellence across the continent.
In preparation, the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, inaugurated an inter-ministerial Local Organising Committee (LOC) on Wednesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The LOC includes representatives from key government agencies, such as the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Information and National Orientation, Interior, as well as the Nigerian Film Corporation and National Film and Video Censors Board. Also included are representatives of AFRIMA and the African Union Commission.
Speaking at the inauguration, Musawa said the AFRIMA initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of using the creative sector as a driver of economic growth, national development, and social transformation.
“This is more than just an awards show,” Musawa said. “It is a platform to create jobs, promote tourism, and tell Africa’s story authentically through music. We’re excited to work with the Lagos State Government, AFRIMA, and the AU to deliver a world-class event.”
AFRIMA President and Executive Producer, Mike Dada, praised the Federal Government for its swift approval and strong commitment to the event.
“President Tinubu’s backing of AFRIMA 2025 is a bold statement of support for Africa’s creative and cultural industries,” Dada said. “We also thank the Lagos State Government for accepting to host and for its continued investment in the sector.”
Dada expressed confidence that this year’s edition would be one of the most memorable yet, showcasing Africa’s vibrant talent and cultural heritage to the world.
