Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his long-standing association with the ruling party.

His resignation was conveyed in a letter personally signed and addressed to the APC chairman of Banshika Ward in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Dated June 29, 2025, the letter stated that his exit from the party takes immediate effect.

Lawal, who served under President Muhammadu Buhari during his first term, hinted at a shift in political direction, saying he would soon announce his new political affiliation.

He described the move as part of a broader mission to “join other compatriots in working towards making Nigeria a better living place for all Nigerians.”

Amid his departure, photos of Lawal have surfaced on social media, showing him in the company of prominent opposition figures. These include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former APC governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu “Binani” Ahmed; and former Senators Ahmed Barata and Abdulazeez Nyako.

The individuals seen with Lawal are alleged to be part of the emerging Nigerian National Opposition Coalition (NNOC), fueling speculation that he may be aligning himself with a new political bloc ahead of the 2027 elections.
