Challenge APC with facts, not fights, Aregbesola tells ADC supporters

Former Interior Minister and interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has urged members of the newly launched party to refrain from insulting or attacking supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His call came shortly after the formal unveiling of the ADC in Abuja, as the party begins mobilizing to challenge the Tinubu administration in the 2027 general elections.

Aregbesola, who returned to Lagos on Friday, shared his message in a statement posted on his social media platforms.

Thanking ADC members and supporters who welcomed him at the Lagos airport, Aregbesola emphasized the need for a disciplined and issues-based political campaign.

“The task before us is immense,” he wrote. “I reminded everyone that we do not need to fight, insult, or attack anyone. When others resort to abuse or name-calling, we must rise above it.”

Instead, he urged supporters to focus on facts and policy debates, particularly around the economy.

“Ask them one simple question: Are Nigerians better off today than they were before? Challenge them with facts—on food inflation, the economy, the rising cost of living, and the deepening poverty affecting millions.”

He further encouraged members to articulate the ADC’s message with clarity and purpose.

“Let our debates remain focused on the issues that matter. Explain why our new political home, the ADC, represents a credible and necessary alternative for Nigeria’s progress and long-term sustainability.”

The statement comes amid heightened political activity as the ADC, a coalition of former party members and reformist groups, positions itself as a viable contender in 2027.
