Akume remains SGF, says Presidency

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that Senator George Akume has been replaced as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) by Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.

Several media outlets (not The Telegraph) reported that Akume had been appointed as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), replacing Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

In response, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement titled “Akume Remains SGF,” calling the reports false and urging the public to disregard them.

“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” Onanuga said. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments. The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue and was fabricated by agents of mischief.”

The clarification follows the confirmed resignation of Ganduje as APC National Chairman on Thursday. According to APC spokesman Felix Morka, Ganduje stepped down “to attend to urgent and important personal matters.” His resignation took immediate effect.

Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, has since been named acting chairman of the APC.
