Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule make public appearance after peace talks

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara in Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State.
Barely 48 hours after renewed peace talks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, were seen together publicly once again.

The latest appearance occurred during a funeral service held in Rumueprikom, Wike’s hometown in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The three key political figures have been embroiled in a protracted power struggle that has rocked the state’s political landscape for nearly two years. Their joint appearance follows a peace meeting brokered on Thursday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at resolving the deepening rift between Governor Fubara and his former allies.

The funeral service was attended by several prominent political stakeholders, including Senators Allwell Onyesoh, George Thompson Sekibo, and Olaka Nwogu. Also present were former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, former House of Representatives Member Hon. Ken Chikere, APC South-South Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and former PDP Deputy National Chairman Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, among others.

While no political statements were made at the event, the presence of Fubara, Wike, and Amaewhule at the same venue has reignited cautious optimism about a possible resolution to the crisis. The conflict previously escalated to the point of a declared state of emergency in the state just three months ago.

Observers hope the symbolic public reunion, combined with ongoing dialogue, signals a potential turning point in the long-standing political standoff.
