Ali Dalori replaces Ganduje as APC national chairman

Ali Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been appointed Acting National Chairman of the party following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, formally stepped down from the position on Thursday. His resignation, which takes immediate effect, was attributed to “urgent and important personal matters,” according to a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Dr. Ganduje expressed his deep appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level,” Morka stated.

Following the development, President Tinubu directed Dalori to assume the role of Acting National Chairman pending the convening of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to formally fill the vacancy.

Ganduje, who hails from the North-West geopolitical zone, was appointed APC National Chairman in August 2023 after the resignation of his predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, from the North-Central zone. His leadership, however, faced internal opposition, particularly from party members who argued that his appointment contravened the APC’s zoning principles.

A two-term governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023, Ganduje was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in January 2025. He has also reportedly been considered for a non-career ambassadorial posting.
