The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exam will hold on Saturday, 28th June 2025.
According to a statement released on Sunday by JAMB’s Public Communications Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, a total of 96,838 candidates are expected to participate in the mop-up exercise.
“These include 5,096 spill-over candidates who experienced biometric verification failures during the main UTME, and 91,742 others who were absent during both the main and rescheduled exams,” the statement said.
Candidates are advised to begin printing their notification slips from Monday, 23rd June 2025 in preparation for the examination, which will be conducted in 183 centres nationwide. A few additional candidates will remain on standby, according to JAMB.
The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to the integrity of its examinations, disclosing that 113 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres have been delisted due to various infractions, including technical failures and malpractice. These centres are currently under investigation, with possible prosecutions pending for those found culpable.
Ongoing probes have reportedly exposed several examination fraud syndicates, involving school proprietors, tutorial centres, and even a few JAMB officials. As a result, some examination towns have been deactivated, and affected candidates will be reassigned to the nearest available centres. The Board has appealed for their understanding.
JAMB expressed appreciation to the State Security Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their role in uncovering widespread impersonation and identity theft.
To combat impersonation, particularly by undergraduate students, JAMB has warned that institutions of offenders will be notified. Violators may face expulsion for breaching their matriculation oath, in addition to prosecution under the Examination Malpractice Act of 1999.
The Board reminded candidates that the first session of the exam will commence at 8:00 a.m., and advised all participants to arrive at their centres at least one hour before the start time.
JAMB concluded by reaffirming its commitment to transparency and fairness, stating that the mop-up exam will be conducted under strict supervision, with special squads of invigilators and security personnel deployed to monitor the process.
