Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot bags awards in Ghana

Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni
Nigeria’s trailblazing first female fighter pilot, Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, has once again made history by clinching the titles of Best Allied Student and Best Assistant Commandant Paper at the prestigious Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.

The accolades were presented on Friday during the College’s graduation ceremony, which was attended by senior military officials and dignitaries from across Africa.

Flt Lt Sanni first captured national attention in 2019 when she became the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) first female fighter pilot after completing her training in the United States.

Since then, she has flown the Alpha Jet and served as an instructor on the Super Mushshak, mentoring and training new generations of NAF pilots with dedication and expertise.

Her exceptional achievements at GAFCSC highlight not only her personal excellence and resilience but also reflect Nigeria’s expanding leadership role in regional defence and its commitment to gender inclusion within the armed forces.

This landmark accomplishment underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic focus on human capital development, championed by Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, signaling a promising future for Nigeria’s military aviation.
