Personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship Delta have uncovered and destroyed an illegal oil refining dump site in the creeks of the Niger Delta region.
Commodore Abdulazeez Zubairu, Commander of NNS Delta, told journalists in Warri on Saturday that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining, and pipeline vandalism within the NNS Delta area of operations.
The discovery followed intelligence reports on illegal bunkerers operating in the creeks. Since June 19, 2025, a team of fourteen naval personnel, deployed in two gunboats and a speedboat, has been conducting operations in the creeks.

“The team reached Obotebe community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State at coordinates 5.381734⁰N, 5.587105⁰E, where they found a dump site used for illegal refining,” Commodore Zubairu said.
Recovered from the site were a 1.5 horsepower Yamaha engine, a generator, six pumping machines, two rolls of hoses, and other equipment.
The operation aligns with Operation Delta Sanity 11, conducted under the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
