World record holder Tobi Amusan delivered a brilliant performance on Friday at the 2025 Paris Diamond League, running a season’s best 12.24 seconds to finish second in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The time is Amusan’s second-fastest ever, trailing only her world record of 12.12s set in 2022.
The Nigerian hurdler surged through the final metres in trademark style, closing rapidly on Grace Stark of the United States. Stark, who had exploded out of the blocks, held her lead to win in a personal best and meet record of 12.21s—a time that now makes her the fifth-fastest woman in history over the distance.
Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent took third in a swift 12.30s, rounding off a high-calibre podium.
Amusan’s strong showing in Paris continues her impressive resurgence this season. After a slow start—finishing fourth in Xiamen (12.74s) and again in Shaoxing (12.66s)—she rebounded in style with a commanding win in Rabat, where she ran 12.45s, a season-best and meet record at the time.
Paris marked Amusan’s fourth Diamond League appearance of the season, and her upward momentum is building just in time for major global championships.
The 2022 world champion faced a stacked field in the French capital, including world medallist Keni Harrison, Jamaican star Ackera Nugent, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, Dutch champion Nadine Visser, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, and current Diamond League leader Grace Stark.
Despite fierce competition, Amusan’s experience and return to peak form saw her challenge strongly for maximum points, as the race to the Diamond League final in Zurich heats up.
She now sits fourth in the overall standings with 10 points, behind Stark (23), Danielle Williams (15), and Marione Fourie (12).
With the World Championships approaching, Amusan is peaking at just the right time. The chase for gold—and perhaps another historic performance—is well and truly on.
