Germany has evacuated 64 of its nationals from Israel using two air force planes, the government announced on Friday, while emphasizing that the operation was not a military evacuation.

In a joint statement, the foreign and defence ministries said two Airbus A400M transport aircraft were dispatched to Israel to bring back families with children and other vulnerable individuals.

The operation was conducted in coordination with Israeli authorities and was classified as a diplomatic mission, the statement noted. A military evacuation would have required parliamentary approval under German law.

This comes as part of a broader effort to assist German citizens amid escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, with both nations continuing to exchange cross-border strikes.

The foreign ministry previously arranged the evacuation of 345 citizens on two chartered flights routed through Amman, Jordan. Another flight from Amman is scheduled for Saturday.

Germany joins a number of countries currently conducting evacuations by air, land, and sea from the region as tensions rise.
