The Benue State Government has declared Wednesday, June 18, a work-free day to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit to the state.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Makurdi, the state capital, by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Deborah Aber.
“This day is in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who will be visiting the state for one day,” Mrs. Aber stated.
She explained that the visit aims to commiserate with the government and people of Benue over the ongoing security challenges facing the region.
However, she clarified that essential service providers, including health workers, security personnel, and banking staff, are exempt from the work-free day.
Mrs. Aber also encouraged residents of Benue to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President and his entourage.
Earlier on Monday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Tinubu’s visit to Benue was part of renewed efforts to promote peace and address persistent conflicts in the state.
Consequently, Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State, which was initially planned for Wednesday, to allow for the Benue trip. The Kaduna visit will include commissioning several state government projects.
