The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Ugosimba I of Enugu by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council.

The title, which translates to “jewel” or “eagle from another kingdom,” was bestowed on her Tuesday during her two-day working visit to Enugu State.

Chairman of the Council, Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, said the honour was in recognition of Mrs Tinubu’s enduring support for humanitarian causes, her deep affection for the people of Enugu, and her contributions to national development.

“You served three terms in the Senate and were honoured as a Commander of the Order of the Niger.
But beyond politics, we admire your compassion for the less privileged, your advocacy for nurses and midwives, and your broader efforts to uplift humanity,” Igwe Asadu said during the ceremony.

In her acceptance speech, the First Lady expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, describing Enugu as a peaceful and welcoming state where she had felt “inner peace” since her arrival.

“This is a special honour that I will cherish forever. I love your state—it is calm and welcoming.
This title is not just mine; it is for my husband, President Bola Tinubu, and our entire family,” she said.

“As you have honoured me today, Enugu State will be remembered for good.”
