Court remands 34 for illegal street trading in Lagos

A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, on Tuesday ordered the remand of 34 individuals in prison custody until July 22, 2025, for engaging in illegal street trading along the median of the Alaba Rago section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Ojo.

The defendants—32 males and 2 females—were arrested over the weekend during a joint enforcement operation by the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). The operation aimed to clear the median, which had been overtaken by traders who erected illegal structures.

Authorities also apprehended several suspected miscreants who reportedly used makeshift shelters on the median as hideouts for criminal activity.

Speaking on the enforcement, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding environmental laws and curbing public disorder.

“This administration remains resolute in enforcing the law against all forms of deviant behavior,” Wahab stated.

He also urged residents to uphold basic standards of public decency and contribute to building a cleaner, more sustainable Lagos.
