Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has donated ₦300 million to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Zulum announced the donation on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Government House, Minna, where he led a delegation from Borno to commiserate with the government and people of Niger State over the devastating floods that claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands.
He said the donation was meant to support and complement the relief efforts of the Niger State Government, noting that the floods had destroyed homes, farmlands, and livelihoods.
“It is time for subnational governments to work collectively to mitigate the impact of climate change, which is contributing to these disasters,” Zulum said, calling on the Federal Government to establish a comprehensive framework to tackle flooding and other climate-related challenges.
In response, Niger State Governor Umaru Bago expressed deep appreciation, describing the gesture as timely and a testament to solidarity and leadership.
“Governor Zulum’s compassion and commitment continue to inspire others. This donation will be judiciously used to support displaced communities and ongoing resettlement efforts,” Bago assured.
He also emphasized the need to raise awareness about the dangers of living in flood-prone areas and stressed preventive measures to reduce future risks.
