The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of patrol teams and intensified security operations across the country ahead of the Eid-el-Adha celebrations.
In a directive issued to all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Tactical Commanders, the IGP emphasized the need to strengthen security at Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, and other public spaces to prevent any breach of peace during the festivities.
Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, said the IGP underscored the importance of creating a safe environment for worshippers and all citizens during the holiday season.
Commanders have been instructed to conduct high-visibility patrols, intelligence-led surveillance, and strategic stop-and-search operations to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety.
“Commissioners of Police, Tactical Commanders, and their supervising AIGs have been tasked with bolstering security measures at Eid prayer venues, parks, and other high-traffic locations,” the statement read. “They are also to lead intelligence-driven patrols and enforce stop-and-search protocols to preempt any threats.”
Extending warm greetings to the Muslim Ummah, IGP Egbetokun urged Nigerians to embrace the values of tolerance, compassion, and peaceful coexistence, especially during the holy month of Dhul-Hijjah.
He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security agency, noting that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility.
Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to public safety and national security, the IGP wished all Muslim faithful a joyous and peaceful Eid.
“This season calls for reflection on the virtues of patience, kindness, and unity,” the IGP said. “Let us emulate the righteous examples of the prophets and work together toward a more harmonious and secure Nigeria.”
