Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth a reported £62.5 million ($83 million), the club announced on Sunday.
Cunha, 26, is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with an option to extend for a further year. The move is subject to visa approval and registration.
“Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha,” a club statement read. “Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.”
The Brazil international was in Manchester over the weekend to finalize the transfer. He scored 18 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season, earning the club’s Player of the Year award. In total, he netted 33 goals in 92 appearances after joining from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.
United triggered the release clause in Cunha’s contract, making him new manager Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
The move comes after a disappointing season for United, who finished 15th in the Premier League — their lowest placing since 1973–74 — and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
