Authorities in Enugu State are actively searching for Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, a prominent native doctor, following a chilling case of kidnapping and suspected ritual murders in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
On Wednesday, the Enugu State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspects connected to the abduction of a 13-year-old girl and the grisly discovery of two decomposed bodies concealed in a concrete-sealed pit.
The detainees — Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38) — remain in police custody, while Obu, also known by the aliases “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” is still at large.
Police identified Obu as a well-known traditionalist from Umuojor village in the Isiagu community, where the crimes reportedly took place.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe detailed the sequence of events: the girl was abducted on Monday, May 27, 2025, while heading to the farm with her father. The kidnappers staged a motorcycle breakdown, persuading the father to assist by lending his knife and pushing the vehicle. Seizing the opportunity, they grabbed the girl and fled.
A community search was immediately launched, culminating in the girl’s rescue at Obu’s compound.
A subsequent search of the premises uncovered a sealed pit beneath an unfinished building, described as a shrine. Inside, investigators found the decomposed bodies of a man and a woman.
“Two decomposed bodies, male and female, were found buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building used as a shrine, linked to heinous crimes by the prime suspect who remains at large,” Ndukwe stated.
“Investigations indicate the victims were recently murdered and buried for ritualistic purposes. The rescued child narrowly escaped a similar fate thanks to timely intervention.”
In response, the Enugu State Government has demolished the implicated structures due to their criminal use.
State Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa visited the scene, commending the coordinated efforts of police, local security teams, and community members that prevented a further tragedy.
Giwa has ordered an intensified manhunt, directing tactical, investigative, and intelligence units to track down Obu and any accomplices.
“This operation will continue relentlessly until all those responsible are brought to justice,” Giwa affirmed.
