The Senate has passed the 2025 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Statutory Appropriation Bill, approving a total expenditure of ₦1.81 trillion for the fiscal year.
The bill, passed after its third reading, followed the presentation of a harmonised report by Senator Mohammed Ibrahim, chairman of the joint committee, which incorporated inputs from both legislative chambers in line with sections 62, 80, 88, 89, and 299 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The budget will be funded from projected revenues and allocates ₦150.35 billion (8.29%) to personnel costs, ₦352.03 billion (19.41%) to overhead, and ₦1.31 trillion (72.31%) to capital expenditure. Recurrent spending totals ₦502.38 billion.
The budget was drafted following consultations with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and top officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). It aims to support infrastructure development, improve public services, and meet the growing needs of Abuja and surrounding communities.
During his recent appearance before the Senate, Wike raised concerns about worsening security and healthcare challenges in the FCT, calling for coordinated national action. He highlighted Abuja’s status as the nation’s capital and a diplomatic hub, stressing the need for a tailored security strategy.
Wike also announced the acquisition of modern diagnostic equipment to strengthen the FCT’s healthcare system and improve access to quality medical services.
