The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki over allegations of theft and conduct deemed inconsistent with military ethics.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, the Army said Maidoki is currently under investigation in line with the Armed Forces Act and established internal regulations.

“As a professional institution, the Nigerian Army follows due process and ensures disciplinary measures are not arbitrary,” the statement read. “Corporal Maidoki’s detention complies with legal procedures, and her rights, including access to welfare, are being upheld.”

The Army dismissed claims of unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, describing them as false and intended to mislead the public.

While the investigation continues, the Army urged the public to avoid speculation and assured that updates will be provided when appropriate.

It also acknowledged concerns raised by Maidoki’s family, stating that lawful and constructive engagement is welcome, provided it aligns with ongoing operational and investigative procedures.

“No one is above the law or exempt from military discipline,” the statement added. “Allegations of misconduct must be addressed thoroughly and lawfully to uphold the integrity and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.”
