Controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦30,000 fine by the Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo.
The sentencing followed his conviction on two counts related to assaulting a police officer and obstructing lawful arrest.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo, found the singer guilty of assault and resisting arrest in connection with an incident that occurred on November 18, 2022, in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
Portable was earlier arrested in March 2023 after allegedly attacking a police inspector and obstructing officers who were attempting to serve him with an arrest warrant.
During the proceedings, Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke informed the court that the defendant had conspired with others—who remain at large—to commit assault, a felony offense under Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law (2006).
The charge sheet further alleged that Portable physically assaulted one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, a male police officer, by beating him, an offense punishable under Section 351 of the same law.
In addition to the assault charges, Portable was accused of stealing musical equipment in 2022, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a complete Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone—alleged offenses under Sections 384 and 383 and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code. However, the court convicted him on only two counts.
For Count 1 (conspiracy to assault), the court sentenced him to one month in prison with the option of a ₦10,000 fine. For Count 2 (unlawful assault), he was handed a two-month sentence with an option of a ₦20,000 fine.
Having opted to pay the fines, Portable is expected to avoid jail time.
