Justice Olusola Adetujoye of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, on Monday, April 28, 2025, sentenced Olaniyan Gbenga Amos to 63 years in prison for multiple counts of investment fraud. His company, Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited, was also convicted alongside him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Directorate, arraigned Amos on a 30-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence — a violation of Section 1(1)(a) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

One of the charges read: “That you, Olaniyan Gbenga Amos and Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited, on or about June 18, 2020, obtained N995,000 from Bada Titilope under the false pretext of investing in Crime Alert Security Network with a promised 30% return in six weeks — a representation you knew to be false.”

Despite pleading not guilty, the EFCC presented eight witnesses and multiple exhibits. After the court dismissed Amos’s “no case submission,” he testified as the sole witness for himself and his firm.

Justice Adetujoye found Amos guilty on nine counts and sentenced him to seven years on each, to run concurrently, totaling 63 years. He was acquitted on 21 other counts. The court also ordered full restitution to the victims.

This isn’t Amos’s first conviction. On December 14, 2023, Justice Bayo Taiwo sentenced him to 75 years for a similar scheme. He also faces two other ongoing trials at the Federal High Court in Ibadan.

Amos was first arrested by the EFCC in December 2021 for defrauding investors of over ₦1 billion through bogus investment ventures.
