The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized controlled drugs worth over N2.6 billion in Jigawa State.
The seizure was announced by Musa Maina, the NDLEA commander in the state, who paraded the suspects and seized drugs at the command’s headquarters in Dutse on Monday.
Maina stated that the drugs were intercepted in Gumel following a three-day operation spanning Jigawa and Kano states. Three suspects were arrested, and two vehicles— a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater Hummer bus— were impounded.
The drugs seized included 118.6 tons of Tramadol tablets and 195.3 kg of Pregabalin capsules, among other substances. The suspects, identified as Jamilu Muhammad, Abba Ibrahim, and Shuaibu Umar, were transporting the drugs to various locations across Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, and Niger Republic.
Maina described the operation as one of the NDLEA’s most successful, thanks to extensive intelligence gathering. He emphasized that the seizure represents a significant blow to drug trafficking in the state and affirmed the agency’s commitment to continuing the fight against the drug trade.
The suspects are currently under investigation as authorities work to uncover the masterminds behind the operation. Maina confirmed that the suspects will face full legal prosecution, underscoring that the NDLEA’s actions serve as a deterrent to potential traffickers.
