The Federal Government has officially designated the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna as an alternative to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo SAN, during the inaugural flight of Overland Airways from Minna, marking the first commercial flight at the airport in over a decade.

Keyamo highlighted the airport’s newly upgraded runway, which now meets international standards, and emphasized its strategic location near the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“The Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport has the facilities, runway, ambiance, and location comparable to any high-quality international airport around the world,” Keyamo said.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammad Idris, also praised the development, noting that the resumption of commercial flights at Minna Airport is a clear example of the strong collaboration between the federal government and the states.

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago, visibly excited by the milestone, expressed his commitment to leveraging the airport’s potential for economic growth. He highlighted the state’s ambitions to develop a free trade zone focused on agricultural processing, positioning the airport as a key player in that vision.
