Chelsea were held to a frustrating 2–2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday by newly promoted Ipswich Town in a Premier League clash that saw the visitors race to a shock two-goal lead before the hosts fought back in the second half.
Ipswich silenced the home crowd in the 19th minute when Julio Enciso fired past the Chelsea goalkeeper after latching onto a clever assist from Brennan Johnson. The duo combined again just 12 minutes later, this time with Johnson finishing from an Enciso pass to double Ipswich’s lead and leave the Blues trailing at halftime.
Chelsea responded almost immediately after the restart. Within a minute, Ipswich defender Axel Tuanzebe turned a cross into his own net under pressure, giving Mauricio Pochettino’s side a lifeline. The equaliser came in the 79th minute, as Jadon Sancho finished coolly from a Cole Palmer assist to level the score at 2–2.
Despite a late push for a winner, Chelsea couldn’t break through Ipswich’s resilient defence. The match saw a spate of yellow cards, including bookings for A. Palmer (38’), Cole Palmer (67’), Sam Morsy (84’), and Nicolas Jackson (87’), as tensions mounted in the closing stages.
Meanwhile, at Anfield, Liverpool secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over West Ham United in a tightly contested encounter.
Luis Díaz opened the scoring for the Reds in the 18th minute with a neat finish after being set up by Mohamed Salah. West Ham remained in the game and were rewarded in the 86th minute when Andy Robertson turned the ball into his own net following a defensive lapse, bringing the visitors level.
However, Liverpool responded swiftly. Just three minutes later, Virgil van Dijk rose highest to head home a corner from Alexis Mac Allister, restoring Liverpool’s lead and sealing all three points. Vladimir Coufal was shown a yellow card deep into stoppage time as the Hammers’ frustrations boiled over.
Elsewhere, Wolves claimed an impressive 4–2 win over Tottenham Hotspur, while Newcastle United are set to face Manchester United later this evening in what promises to be another high-stakes clash.
