PDP, Ighadalo’s appeal will crash, says Okpehbolo

Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Friday in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, appeal will crash at the Appellate Court.

Speaking at the Okaijesan Town Hall, where Edo Central leaders hosted a celebration of his election tribunal victory, Okpebholo thanked the people of Edo for their continued support and prayers. He assured them that his administration would maintain its momentum in driving development across the state.

Okpebholo acknowledged that Ighodalo and the PDP planned to challenge the tribunal’s ruling, which confirmed his victory in the September 21, 2024, governorship election. He expressed confidence that their appeal would be unsuccessful, saying, “Edo people spoke loudly and clearly with their votes. We defeated them at the tribunal, and even if they appeal to the Supreme Court, they will fail.”

He further criticized the opposition for allegedly misappropriating state funds, remarking that they were “wasting money on court cases.” He reassured the public that their mandate would not be taken away from him and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor also outlined plans to enhance Esan land’s infrastructure, including a contract to dualize the old road from Ekpoma to Ubiaja. He emphasized his commitment to improving road networks across the state, noting, “We’ve made sure our roads are motorable, and we’re working to boost economic activities.”

Okpebholo shared that the soft loan program for the people of Edo would soon commence, with disbursements beginning in less than two weeks, as names are being compiled for interested beneficiaries.

In his address, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, hailed the double victory in both the governorship election and the tribunal ruling, expressing gratitude to God and the people of Edo for their support.

Bawa Umar, leader of the Arewa community in Esan land, commended Okpebholo for his leadership and peacebuilding efforts, particularly following the Uromi killings, and praised his recent condolence visit to Kano State as a sign of his character.
