Ex-Rivers HoS dismisses kidnap claim, says wife reading script

George Nwaeke
Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has denied reports from his wife, Florence, who claimed he had been kidnapped, stating that he is safe and in Abuja.

In a video released on Saturday, Nwaeke clarified that he had traveled to Abuja to report to security agencies regarding recent developments in Rivers State. He suggested that his wife had been misled and was simply following a script when she made the kidnapping claim.

“I am at the TRANSCORP Hotel in Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet with security agencies and report on the ongoing issues in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday due to these developments,” he explained.

Addressing his wife’s accusations, he emphasized, “I just saw a video of my wife circulating online. She was informed that I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. Let me be clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, here to work.”

He further pointed out that during his tenure as Head of Service, his wife was not involved in his official responsibilities, dismissing her claims as baseless. “That script she read is entirely false. I am safe and well, and I will continue to report to the relevant security agencies,” he asserted.

In an emotional interview, Florence Nwaeke expressed deep concern for her husband’s safety, saying she was unaware of his whereabouts and had grown fearful after seeing a suspicious online interview with him.

She explained, “I saw the interview and immediately thought, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband.’” Florence recounted her frantic efforts to reach him, stating, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have you been kidnapped? Please, talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply, and his phone numbers weren’t going through. Nigerians, please help me!”

Her fears arose after George Nwaeke alleged that the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, was behind the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2023. Nwaeke claimed the attack was a plot to prevent his impeachment and implicated former assembly member Edison Ehie, alleging he had been paid to carry out the attack on the assembly complex.
