Power outage hits Abuja estates, embassies as AEDC cites technical fault

A fresh power outage has disrupted electricity supply to several embassies and residential estates in Abuja, following a technical fault on the feeder supplying the affected areas.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed that the blackout impacted the American, Turkish, Cuban, Ethiopian, Iranian, Liberian, Egyptian, and Japanese embassies, along with their surrounding areas.

Several residential neighborhoods have also been affected, including Brains & Hammer City Estate, Today Estate, Dape District, Katsina Estate, Paradise Estate, Ochacho Estate, Kafe District, the American Embassy Estate, and parts of Gwarinpa.

Despite the disruption, AEDC assured residents and businesses that its technical team was working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as possible.

“We regret the inconvenience caused by this outage and appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to resolve the issue,” the statement read.

Additionally, AEDC announced a scheduled maintenance activity on Sunday, March 23, 2025, which will temporarily disrupt vending services for prepaid customers.

The company explained: “During this brief period, prepaid customers may experience minor interruptions when recharging their meters or accessing vending platforms. Normal service will resume promptly after the maintenance is completed. This activity is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance service reliability and efficiency. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.”
