A fuel tanker exploded in Kontagora, Niger State, on Sunday, sparking panic among residents and motorists in the area.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the incident, which occurred near AA Rano, opposite Kontagora General Hospital.
Eyewitnesses stated that the tanker suddenly erupted in flames, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the sky. Emergency responders and firefighters quickly arrived on the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Despite the intense blaze, only the tanker was destroyed.
Hussaini Ibrahim, Director of Information at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), reassured the public that the situation was under control.
He confirmed to The Telegraph that there were no fatalities or significant property damage beyond the burned tanker.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion, though preliminary reports suggest a possible mechanical fault or fuel leakage may have triggered the blast.
