US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has no plans to ease steel and aluminum tariffs, as the US edges closer to an all-out trade war with its major partners.

Since January, Trump has imposed tariffs on a variety of imports, including steel and aluminum, unsettling global financial markets and stoking fears that his trade policies could push the world’s largest economy into a recession.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump firmly stated, “No, I have no intention of that,” when asked about relaxing the tariffs.

Instead, he reaffirmed his commitment to implement reciprocal levies starting April 2, aiming to address what Washington considers unfair trade practices. This move raises the prospect of more products and countries being specifically targeted.

“April 2 is a liberating day for our country,” Trump declared. “Billions of dollars have already come into our country, and the big money is coming in from April 2.”
