Rivers crisis: I’m ready to re-present budget — Fubara

Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his readiness to re-present the 2025 budget to the state House of Assembly whenever the lawmakers are prepared to receive it.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of health facilities in Khana Local Government Area, Fubara stated that he had informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule of his intended visit to the Assembly. This came shortly after he was denied entry into the Assembly quarters.

The governor, visibly displeased by the lawmakers’ actions, emphasized that he was following the Assembly’s directive, based on the Supreme Court’s ruling on February 28, 2025. He reiterated, “I still believe they may be instructed later. If they are, I’m ready to come any day to resolve this issue.”

Earlier, Fubara, accompanied by top government officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, arrived at the Assembly complex on Aba Road in Port Harcourt. However, they were met with a locked gate, preventing their access.

In a brief interaction with journalists, Fubara accused Speaker Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him, stating that multiple calls to the lawmaker had gone unanswered.
